An increase in the bleachability of pulp decreases
the use of chlorine, caustic chlorine dioxide, peroxide,
and other bleach plant chemicals. This reduces the
cost of chemicals used in the bleaching process and
allows mills to produce pulp and paper at a lower net
cost.
The cost of manufacturing goods from plant fibre is
a function of many factors, including the fibres
character and the processing methods used. The ability
to change the fibre itself or its processing method
without an impact on the products quality, offers
the potential to reduce the total cost of production.
